Whenever I download files with Internet Explorer to a samba share on my linux box, WinXP insists on saving an additional *.ide file along with it. For example: if I download Autoruns.zip off of sysinternals.com to my samba share, I'll get another file called AUTOR~VN.IDE Here's what's in the file: [ZoneTransfer] ZoneId=3 This appears to be a lame attempt to preserve an alternate data stream along with the downloaded file. For more info see this article: Hidden Threat: Alternate Data Streams Can anyone tell me how to shut this crap off so I stop getting .ide files?
solved: turn off zone checks by setting an environment variable: SEE_MASK_NOZONECHECKS 1 This probably causes all sorts of collateral damage with IE but so far so good. Please tell me how to force IE to shut the hell up and open the stuff I tell it to open dammit. I click the first dialog box and select open, then this crap appears:![]()
