How to Install this version of TryPeaks --------------------------------------- Version 1.0 January 30, 1999 Copyright (C) 1999 by Seanster All Rights Reserved. Note: If you're not using gnome from cvs, then you shouldn't be messing with this version of TryPeaks! This is a beta release and not for general distribution. Until someone either says they will add this to gnome-games or will not, the install will be a little messy. If you managed all the other cvs stuff then this is child's play. Read the instructions all the way through to be sure you have what you need. Or to decide if it's worth it or not... Un-tar the package named trypeaks_source.tgz.tar into your gnome-games directory. Note that if your version of gnome-games is much newer than trypeaks, you should back-up your copies of Makefile.am and configure.in and restore them later. [ ~/> cd gnome-games gnome-games/> tar xvf trypeaks_source.tgz.tar ] This will write out 3 files: Makefile.am configure.in trypeaks_install.txt (this document) trypeaks.tgz Now untar the trypeaks directory into gnome-games. [ gnome-games/> tar zxvf trypeaks.tgz ] Now build, install, and clean-up: [ gnome-games/> touch Makefile.am gnome-games/> ./autogen.sh gnome-games/> make gnome-games/> make install gnome-games/> make clean ] If you encounter problems, then maybe you don't have the proper tools for running autogen.sh. That's a much bigger issue related to any gnome cvs module and is miles beyond the scope of this document. If you're not using gnome from cvs already, then you shouldn't be messing with this version of TryPeaks! When everything has built properly, play TryPeaks! [ gnome-games/> trypeaks ] The first time you run the game you will be asked for the location where the high-scores file should be stored. If you play TriPeakz on Windowz, you may want to copy or even share your statistics/high scores data. The windowz version stores it's high scores in: \windows\EntPack.ini TryPeaks will happily share this file with the other games that use it, and will not harm it in any way. That said, MAKE A BACKUP! It'll only end in tears! If windowz makes you retch, simply press the OK button to accept the default name and location for the INI file. Please note that you can change the location of the INI file at any time by choosing the menu option SETTINGS->Scores Location... Doing this only chooses the file. TryPeaks will not move the contents of the old file to the new file or delete the old file, or anything of the sort. It will only create a new file if one does not exist. Next it's going to ask you your name. If you want to remain anonymous or just fool around, choose the default 'Guest' player, otherwise type in your name and click OK. Now the game board will draw and you are ready to play. Press the 'Deal' button on the toolbar and go crazy :) If you have never played TryPeaks before and don't know the rules, then you're just going to have to figure it out (I did). [Or maybe by then the rules help will have been written (there's a job for YOU! :) and you can access the rules from the 'HELP' menu.] Share and Enjoy! //EOF
