PGPIRC is a companion for mIRC which handles channel OPs safely and automatically. It uses the exchange of timely encrypted data with Public Key technology. It's perfectly secure for communicating over insecure networks like IRC. Man-in-the-Middle and Replay attacks are useless against PGPIRC. You don't need to run an extra client, unlike BOTS, so it's perfect for home users, anyone without shell access. or people who want better security than BOTS provide.
This is the first ever publicly available, Public Key add-on for IRC (that I know of). Some people probably have BOTS with rolling code passwords or such, but none are public to my knowledge.
PGPIRC uses the CryptoAPI which encrypts/decrypts/signs/verifies data.
Important messages to and from PGPIRC are encrypted using Public
Key technology. Anyone intercepting a message (imposter, sysop, whoever)
will never be able to decode the message or use it against you.
All messages are timely, so if someone captures a message, impersonates you and
sends the message to anyone, the message will be invalid.
Deopping people on Netsplit Serverops can be used, because PGPIRC will automatically and safely
OP them again.
Imagine never having to manually OP yourself or others, or worry about hackers
taking your channel at 6 am when everyone is sleeping. That's what PGPIRC can do for you.
